While it would be cool to see the Subway extended, if Glasgow is really serious about improving public transport, the number one priority that needs to happen is either public ownership of buses, or bus franchising; similar to London - where private companies can still operate but the council has full control over routes, fares, and timetables, and can integrate all modes of travel (bus, train, Subway, ebikes) with integrated ticketing (like London's Oyster card) with a daily price cap.

I don't have much hope that this will happen since the council loves to cosy up to the private operators, but it's hard to overstate how much economic and social benefit this would have for the city. As long as the status quo remains in place, bus ridership will continue to plummet, as it has for decades, even pre-covid.
