Comment	Yeah this is so true. There’s no excusing junkies behaviour when they’re out doing shit like this. But people need to realise that even the scumbag junkies like this don’t want to be in the position they are in, all be it they may have made bad decisions to end up in the position they are in. I’m a big believer in helping reduce junkies by helping them rather than punishing them. Sticking them in jail for a weekender or a month or whatever it might be isn’t going to help junkies it actually makes them worse as drugs such as smack can actually be easier to get in prison than on the outside for some people. I like to look at Portugal when talking about the junkie epidemic in Scotland because in 2001 (I’m pretty sure it was) is when Portugal decriminalised all drugs and spent that money they used on policing drugs on rehab centres, drug safety and folk who would go out looking for junkies to give them clean supplies to use to help combat spread of disease and would also offer help to them and show them that their government do care about them and are willing to put the effort in to help them rebuild their life. Before they had this Portugal had one of if not the worst OD and drug abuse rates in the world. They are now one of the lowest countries for overdoses and drug use. Not saying that there isn’t junkies who will refuse all help and don’t give a fuck but I think most folk would be surprised by how many junkies would actually change their life if they were given the opportunity. And I mean real opportunity it’s clear these people need serious help and can’t do it by self that’s why it’s a shit argument to say they got themselves into that mess they can get themselves out it, that point of view helps literally no one.
