Housing isn't as bad in terms of quality. Lots of flats have been knocked down, but more importantly the ones that were not have been improved tremendously by the mid to early 2000s the then lab gov had ensured that kids don't have to grow up without double glazing, central heating etc.


Ultimately the post war push to move people out of the city was done pretty badly. But it's important to point out that at the time, getting a flat in one of the new developments was seen as a life changing thing. And maybe it was formyoir grandmother and that lingering feeling might have pushed her to stay after the increase in crime that came with the poverty of the 70s/80s and 90s
