| Comment | Tbf we literally make these calculations every day about so many things we do. As a society we're okay with thousands of deaths and serious injuries if we can have the convenience of driving a car.
These calculations are being done by government regarding covid also, but it's not an easy task and we're still trying to work out how many deaths people are okay with.
The thing is everyone's risk of infection and transmission is different. If you work from home and get your shopping delivered the risk of you having it is incredibly low. The likelihood of then transmitting to someone else if you socially distance and wear a mask for a day with family are also low.
To continue the driving analogy.. some people are driving high powered sports cars whilst drunk and others are on a push bike.
I think the government is doing the right thing with the tougher restrictions over Christmas, you could even argue the special treatment given to Christmas over other holidays isn't right and there shouldn't be any lowering on restrictions. |
