But surely the issue is that if we open the floodgates and let everyone get on with life while protecting the vulnerable, the NHS still can't provide the treatment needed because there's no beds?

I'm waiting to find out if my cancer has relapsed and it's being kicked down the line because of Covid so I absolutely get the frustration. But I've also had issues with surgery in January pre-covid, not finding out if I have a bed till the day of admission.

That said, where needed diagnosis is still ongoing. Doctors are not operating on a blanket ban - they're weighing up the risks for each patient. My team have decided the risk to me is too great to have me in hospital in January and have been open about this with me.

The most helpful thing people can do is follow the rules so this subsides quicker. Just look at New Zealand and how things are going there. We are close to getting people vaccinated, we just need to hang in there.
