Comment | Charles Tennent was an industrious chemist who founded the Glasgow water works as well as discovering bleaching powder. I assume he is slumped because he worked so hard in life that this was his actual resting place. I once heard that this statue was commissioned by his staff in spite, don’t think that’s true but you never know as history likes to gloss things over.
The sculptor has loads of stuff around Glasgow as he was considered the best portrait sculptor in Scotland during this time. I’ve always liked that statute . |
