Sounds like nonsense about tax fraud and more like he doesn't want to fork out any wages until Kickstart pay him first. He could totally be paying you from the company money first and let Kickstart grants replace it later. The fact that he did a 2 week unpaid trial is enough of a red flag to tell you he is a bellend.
