I live in Glasgow and have family who lived in Paris so I know both a bit. Glasgow is cheap and compact, and very laid back. Finding pals is easy and while you get proper city life with art and food and markets and cafes etc (probably not as good as Paris, in particular foodwise even though it's not bad here) you are also close to some amazing scenery, beaches, hills, castles, and a lot of mind clearing refreshing emptiness. You can have short trips to islands and proper mountains.

So if you are really into city life, Paris is great, but if you like nature, Glasgow is a thousand times better.
