If you’re looking to see as much of Europe as possible then you’re probably best being based in Paris since it’s on mainland Europe (easy connections to other places by bus/train) whereas U.K. is a separate island. Also, we’ve just left the E.U so it would possibly be more expensive to travel back and forth to mainland European countries for visits.

I’m not trying to put you off Glasgow but for a few short months in winter, Paris has the wow factor and their Christmas market down the length of the Champs-Élysées is amazing.

I’m sure you could find some basic french lessons in Ottawa or online. I think French Canadian is slightly different to french french....but Paris is such a big tourist destination that most restaurants/shops/bars etc will have staff members that can speak English :)
