I would say from experience...the bathroom suite supplier will stipulate that all items must be checked before fitting, that is only reasonable and they will replace any item that is damaged, you can see why this is reasonable, if they supplied it broken, they will replace F.O.C but they can't be expected to replace an item broken during or after fitting. As you are not a plumber, I would expect the professional plumber to check all items before fitting. It appears to me that the plumber is at fault. As a side note - shower traps are made of plastic and are really quite difficult to crack, it is more likely that it was not tightened up properly by the plumber.
