Did it on behalf of someone else. Sent one in on the 29th of Nov, received an email on the 3rd with a number to call and paid over the phone. The guy said the existing permit was valid until the end of the month and that the new one would kick on the start of January.
Apparently it's all digital now, I don't think they've received a ticket at least!
