Even if you don't have any bar experience you should be ok if you even have retail experience.

If you do get a trial shift anywhere make sure to not stand about, always find something to do, ask questions and don't be on your phone.

I second the comment about dressing the part, don't wear your suit but don't wear grubby trainers and a tracksuit. Just be casual if dropping off a cv somewhere.

I know tenants used to do a training academy for people wanting to get into the trade.

You could also see if you can get a personal licence, I got mine paid for using ITA funding. Not sure if that is still a thing though. That would mean the employer doesn't need to give you licencing training which is a bonus.

Honestly though I would look elsewhere for now. It's a shit show and is going stay that way for a while yet.

I have years of bar experience upto management level. Recently got made redundant from my office job so started in a new restaurant down the road as duty manager to tide me over.

Worked 5 weeks, covid restrictions came in so we moved to takeaway only. If anything business was better than before but got an email 12hrs before my last shift telling me that for financial reasons my position as duty manager was no longer financially viable and I wouldn't be needed.

Fairly certain they have broken the contract agreement that I signed and now the owner isn't responding to any emails.

It's a familiar tale in this trade, dodgy owners screwing over their staff to save a quick buck.

All you have to do is look at G1 and other establishments such as Blue Dog/Adlib who claimed furlough for their staff but fired them and kept the money.

Good luck anyway!
