| Comment | The TV and Film industry is bizarrely secretive and nepostistic in how it works. You get some places that advertise for low-level positions, but the vast majority of work is having the extremely hard to establish connections with others who'll then get you onto other jobs. As a result, it's a weird culture of a small pool of individuals who are just fortunate to get the jobs that everyone outwith the circle never know about.
I was a runner for years and I didn't know until after the fact through the news that Detective Pikachu, Hobbes and Shaw, Avengers, etc., were filmed in Scotland. I love those franchises and had the skills and experience to work on them, but it's impossible to work on them if you're not in a very select group of people already in the industry. |
