Comment | I'm sure there are roaches in Govanhill - there are unlikely to be \~300 reports in Glasgow each year without some of those being in Govanhill. It just seems like insisting that "Tenements are infested with cockroaches" is a statement designed to elicit a particular response, rather than being grounded in fact. I have no doubt there are flats in Govanhill with cockroaches - just as I have no doubt there are flats and houses with roaches in every other part of Glasgow; but I don't see anyone trying to claim that Hyndland tenements are 'infested', do you? A friend of my wife tells me that the HA she works for has about as many pest control calls about moths as they do about cockroaches, even though they don't deal with moths. whoiamisme chose a claim of cockroach infestation to back up their claim of "it was a shit hole then and still is now" not because it was true, but because it helped support their claim. \*That\* is the issue I was addressing in the comment they replied to - people decide they don't like Govanhill, and make up all sorts of shit to justify that and convince others that their dislike/hatred is warranted and sensible. Why? What does anyone gain by loudly lying at every opportunity, about a place they don't live or work in, and don't seem to know anything about (or even care to learn anything about)? It's beyond bizarre. The only sensible reason anyone has offered for such behaviour so far is in some of the other replies I've received here: racism. I'd like to think it's not that, but I can't think of any other likelihood. PS - your pest guy's statement sounds good, on the surface, but if you think for a moment... there are not too many creatures for which that *isn't* true. If you see a rat, there is likely more; if you see a bird, there is likely more; a few fish - there are likely more! :P |
