I love the people who volunteered their time to be a clydesider, and still wear the kit till this day.
I know a few people who worked for Glasgow 2014 and Jack Morton. Towards the end of the games there was an email went round stating they were over £30 million under budget, with a strong implication to use it. So much money was wasted and yet not a penny paid to the volunteers. Not even a hint of giving the money to charities or communities or legacy.
It's been a while so I'm sure I'm safe to say, some Glasgow 2014 staff who used the cash to go on holiday in 2015 under the excuse of "interviewing participants" from around the world for a follow up which never happened. Loads of staff got bonuses for a job well done.
Why am I very bitter? I volunteered to be in the closing ceremony, I travelled 70 miles each way to training for it (over 20 days in total) with the promise of expenses for fuel. It wasn't until after everything was done my claim was rejected because I "didn't live far enough away". My friend who lives 5 miles from me qualified and got £2000 for fuel and travel.
Loads of people from down south came up for 3 weeks to "volunteer" and I met at least 5 of them who had said Glasgow 2014 paid for a hotel and travel for them for the entire time. Yet the ones living in Scotland didn't qualify. |
