| Comment | I had a mate who saw photos of a flat for rent and the "landlord" said that, because of timewasters, he wouldn't show it to her unless he had proof that she had the deposit (several hundred quid). He asked her to wire the money to a friend Western Union, and then just email him a copy of the slip showing it had been sent. She was perennially short of money and asked if I would wire the money. She kept telling me there was no risk since I wasn't wiring the money to HIM, and it took her ages to understand my explanation of the scam: that once the ([presumably Nigeria-based) ](https://www.propertytribes.com/interesting-possible-scam-with-gumtree-western-union-t-5548.html)) landlord had that number on the slip, he had my money. She was mad at me for ages. Much much longer than I thought of her as a friend. |
