Lol no I’m not a letting agent, I’m just someone who has looked for flats in Glasgow several times and I just know the process inside out. To me DODGY means when agency doesn’t follow through with repairs and is generally unresponsive and cunty to their tenants - something I’ve experienced myself with one of my previous agencies. Not sure what the solution is here - illegal or not, all I’m saying is that holding deposits seem to be the standard practice in Glasgow.
And yeah, you’re right - not sure why it has to be charged before the checks are completed because if you don’t pass them and don’t get the property then you need to get it back anyway.
