Comment | I will definitely get downvoted for this, but will say it anyway.
I live in the East End, and a few of my neighbours are middle aged guys who, over the last 12 years, have never worked. I assume they don't have a private income, such as a trust fund, and live on benefits. Guys like these should be required to do, say, ten hours a week of litter picking, IMHO.
Hopefully it'd:
- make them think twice about dropping litter.
- encourage family members to be more considerate about the local environment.
- give them a bit of exercise.
- improve the community, especially as there are loads of these guys about.
- help them increase their social circle and improve their mental health.
What about the jobs of the guys paid to do this? Well, I think there's enough work to go around, as my area's a mess. Also someone will need to train and supervise these guys, so no redundancies are necessary. |
