Imo saying you can recycle plastic is kind of misleading. It can be repurposed maybe 2 or 3 times but all of it ends up in landfill eventually. A lot of "recycled" plastic bottles are just dumped anyway, as we produce so much more plastic waste than we can process and the Asian countries who usually take it are overflowing. And that's about to get worse.

Just because plastic bottles are returned for their 20p deposit does not mean they are repurposed. Every plastic container that's manufactured adds to plastic pollution.

Glass and aluminium on the other hand are infinitely recyclable, which this scheme deters people from using.

Another issue we'll probably have to deal with is the same as in Croatia, a country that also has issues with alcoholism. Introducing a fee per container worsened that. 20p on a litre of vodka is more cost effective than 20p x 6 tinnies.

The whole thing is a fucking scam designed to make the government look like they're doing something while giving polluters a free pass and shifting financial burden onto consumers. They need to regulate the use of plastic, not make us pay for the luxury of polluting.
