Think it depends massively on the size of your course. If your course is made up of 10 students, yeah, the marker will have a relationship to the student number, if you're in a cohort of 50+, no one has the capacity to keep track of the different number (hell, we only learn the names of maybe 1-2 people per tutorial/seminar/lecture)
