I think it just highlights how endemic racism is and has been in this country for hundreds of years. If you are a black person and pretty much every major city and town in the country has statues of slave traders, that is going to have an impact isn't it?

And they're just fucking statues at the end of the day, thats the most important thing here, they don't have any feelings, it's just a plinth and some materials and do they define the people of this city in 2021? Of course they fucking don't.

To me it signifies a progressiveness and openness, time doesn't stand still, those statues weren't there before they were erected, so take them down and replace them with something that the majority of this city can relate to. And who knows, maybe in 150 years, another group of people will come along and they want to remove the statues and change them.
