I would support the preservation of the tenements, not just because I find them lovely to look at, which I do, but because a lot of the have been well built. I’m lucky to live in one that’s in fairly good nick. Once you had double glazing and efficient heating systems in place they can be brilliant. Big windows for natural light, and unless some bloody developer has knocked old cupboards together to squeeze a kitchen into, the spaces can be pretty generous.

I don’t think all could be saved, and some have been knocked about so much over time all the benefits have been lost. But we should save and update what we can. They really are part of the fabric of the city. This is personal of course but I think they look bloody gorgeous, especially when you see them in the sunset and the red or blonde sandstone has a warm glow to it.
