As a civil engineer based just outside of Glasgow, personally I would sooner see the traditional sandstone & clay brick constructions last the next 50 years, than a modern timber kit with a facade. The only people pushing for anything like that are the EPC, and they're useless.

There's a series of remedial works tenaments benefit from including internal insulation, provisions for lintel replacement & general roof & mastic repairs. As long as you keep them water tight, many will last another century.
