I have always been disappointed when trying a mattress. It always feels very different after a nights sleep than it did in the shop when you are awkwardly laying on a vinyl covered bed in public with your shoes on, in a shop called "Carpet Busters" or some such. The mattress industry need to figure out a solution for accurately predicting comfort beyond "Medium Firm".
Come to think of it buying a sofa is not much better. Soon as you walk in to the store, you get stalked by some "Consultant" who looks like he failed a Butlin's Redcoat interview for looking like a spiv. The sort of character Arnold Clark would consider too black market even for them.
Couldn't you buy something cheap and temporary online that you could use until the shops open again, than you could put it in a back room for guests?
