Agriculture and wildlife, their er, waste, is carried by burns down hills/ mountains and through fields. Even if there is no sheep close by, flowing water can still carry parasites, etc. I think there is this idea that water in Scotland, especially water the Highlands, is crystal clear but unfortunately it's not! It needs to be filtered. Agriculture in the Highlands has also "shaped" it into how it looks now - it's the remnants of a much more diverse landscape which is quite sad. It used to be covered in dense forest. But I'm rattling on now! I just think a lot of people aren't aware of what the Highlands was.
