I reckon it’s down to not winning the title since 2011, and stopping Celtic’s 10IAR attempt. Unless you’re a football fan, it would be hard to appreciate just how enormous this season was/is for both sets of fans.
You saw the same scenes in Liverpool when they won their first title in a generation, and Leeds when they eventually got back to the top flight after almost two decades of trying.
To a lot of people in places like Glasgow and Liverpool - football trumps all else. Love it or loathe it, that’s the way it was, the way it is, and the way it always will be.
I think that above factor, combined with alcohol, exuberance, and frustration would probably help to explain why folk acted the way they did. |
