| Comment | I think Rangers absolutely should have put out either an urgent statement or a tweet after things were kicking off in George Square telling people to go home. They made over 50 tweets on Sunday, not a peep about the riot going on in George Square in the middle of a pandemic. I'll not even go into the picture of Stevie G hanging out the window celebrating with fans - I bet you he wasn't telling them to go home then! It simply encouraged them further.
That said, I don't think Rangers should be singularly scapegoated by the Government. The Police and local authorities seemingly just let it happen. The Police gave them an escort for fucks sake into George Square. It's actually laughable how little fines and arrests they made on Sunday. I don't blame half the Rangers fans really for thinking about joining in on the celebrations after seeing the live photos of about 3 Police vans just sitting there for the entire night.
There needs to be an inquiry into the Police response. They should have been prepared for Sunday - they clearly weren't, even after the taster of what was to come outside Ibrox on the Saturday.
As a Glaswegian, Sunday made me absolutely embarrassed to call this city home. |
