Sorry to hear that. The news and social media is a dumpster fire of despair. A break will almost certainly be good and when/if you come back what will you have missed or been able to prevent?
I had some fairly horrendous life events in quick succession a few years back and was really down. I will tell you what *really* helped me.
This will sound over simplistic but this really worked for me at a rough period in my life. Walking in the woods. It helped me get a perspective and my thoughts in order. There is lots of evidence on how walking in a peaceful surrounding can improve mood. The Japanese have a name for it shinrin yoku. https://www.forestryengland.uk/blog/forest-bathing
