Any pre-paid electric meter might cause you an issue.


First, even at modern key meter, you end up paying less, as you can't use any promotional tarriffs and stuff.


Second, even if you are allowed to change it into a normal meter, it might cause you problems. In my current flat there was a prepayment meter when I moved in, I began process to have it replace straight away, ended up with 5 month battle with Scottish Power to have it done, wasted literally dozen of hours to have it sorted, only after going all the way up to the energy ombudsman (but they had to pay me back everything that I overpaid and then some more on the top, still it was a hell, not worth going through).


The thing with prepayment meter is also that even if you want to change a supplier, other suppliers won't want to touch you with a bargepole, and even if they agree to take you in, they will have to keep you on prepayment meter for at least 6 months or so...
