That’s awful! Medication can help but if you don’t feel comfortable with it or want to try another route first your doctor should be completely understanding of that. I’ve just completed 8 weeks of therapy as I wasn’t keen on pills either and it’s helped me immensely. Good luck with it, I hope it helps you.
