Comment | Signed up for deliveroo a few months ago, not done a delivery yet as I managed to get a part time job. Seems easy enough, the paperwork can take weeks though to get approved. Think I was a couple of months from start to finish as I was on a wait list for a few weeks. Tried Uber too, but that was a longer wait. Still get daily emails asking to upload my documents but it's not very clear what they need. From a few friends who courier/cycle it's seems alright, can be good pay on Friday/Saturday nights but be warned that busy places like McDonald's will have car drivers waiting outside constantly refreshing the app for jobs, so if it's not busy you can go hours without a job. A few tips I was given were: Don't buy an expensive bike - many places don't have bike parking outside and nowhere to chain your bike. If it's a cheap bike you can get away with just locking a wheel to the frame. Kit - use the free kit, it's branded but really good quality, you might feel like an idiot at first but it's worth it. Always have a spare tyre and inner tube/pump too. Work hours - unless you stay in the city centre you'll probably only get work on Fridays/Saturday. Rest of the week there are teams of riders who sit in the city waiting for orders. You can still make decent money on the weekend but make sure you go into it knowing it's only going to be beer money you'll be making and it take a day or two for your legs to recover! |
