I think what you take from that is simply that everyone could be doing more. It certainly doesn't surprise me that we've a relatively low recycling rate and I think more needs to be done to educate people and get out into communities and physically show people how to recycle properly. I've no doubt there's thousands of people, of all ages who simply don't know what goes where and just ignore it. It's all well and good for The Council talking about having a real presence in communities and using technology to tackle these issues, but it needs fucking done, too many projects in this city look good in a press release and then never come to anything which is why so many people are fairly cynical of anything they do.

Theres a huge responsibility on the general population as well which shouldn't be ignored and over the last however many years, people's attitudes have changed for the worse. There's definitely a large minority of the population that are happy to drop litter and even worse, fly tip purely on the basis that 'someone else will deal with it'

Id add as a caveat that I've said on here a million times that the rubbish issue is hugely exaggerated and it still is to a certain extent. Huge strides have been made in improving the city over the last 20 years, but it's nowhere near filling it's potential. A post covid universe presents the perfect opportunity to re-evaluate how the city works and what it should mean for the people who live here and who use it.
