The problem with the Greens is that (rightly or wrongly) there's a suspicion from many people, that they will be *much* harsher on general waste disposal than the other parties.
I don't know what the current thinking is in mainstream environmentalism, but it really needs to be (and seen to be) that onerous obligations and changes to current practices, if the Greens get their way, *only* fall on the powerful.
What I'm trying to get across, is that there is a perception (no doubt encouraged by media interests) that environmentalism punches down as often (or more) as it punches up.
It's probably better to ban a packaging substance that can't be economically reused, than force it to be recycled at greater cost than throwing it in a landfill, which only works on a national/international basis.

I'm aware this isn't a solution, just saying trying to get people to trust the Greens on the local issue of domestic waste might well be doomed.
