It’s like when David Cameron wanted volunteers to staff libraries so that his party didn’t have to worry about paying librarians. The sentiment of wanting to help is right, but equally, these arseholes in charge need to be held accountable.
We also need to change the culture that makes it normal for people to drop litter, and I don’t know why Scotland has such an extreme problem - I’m not a social anthropologist. Short of advocating for a Singapore-style regime whereby you get locked up for chewing gum and probably executed for dropping it on the floor, I don’t know what the solutions are.
(I find myself invoking a Singapore-style regime a lot when I walk past the riverbank and see the evidence of people’s don’t giving a fuckness, but luckily I am not in charge).
