| Comment | In ye olde days being Catholic or Protestant determined where you worked. There were "Catholic shops" and "Protestant shops". A particular factory or shipyard or even profession might be dominated by one "religion".
You could also tell by school, forename and surname as others have said. What part of the toon you lived in also was sometimes a giveaway.
