There were LOTS of Civil Society groups from all over the world with displays, talks, events etc outside the venue. There were also public presentations at the venue by representatives from various delegations, displays in the venue halls of what companies and other groups were doing, impacts being felt by people around the world. There were rows of conference rooms with simultaneously scheduled presentations. Each day I would arrive, check the schedule boards, pick the ones that looked interesting to attend. Learned a lot, too.

No, I didn't have access to the inner sanctum, but many of the main conference speakers were also shown on large displays in the halls. And for various reasons, occasionally some of the delegates would hold meetings in those conference rooms. (I attended one where UN reps were discussing the difficulties in managing multi-billion dollar green funds - fascinating stuff).

COP21 was important, and I was there. COP26 is important, as this is the one where countries have to make commitments to actually follow through. I want to be there.
