Comment | Well, to start, most people live in areas which are serviced by public transport - that's the whole point of it. If you live in Auchterader then yes, you're probably going to need a car, but nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to live there, just as nobody is forcing you to take a job that requires a car to get to. You don't need to hold a licence to have a basic of standard of living; you can just move, or work from home. That's not me advocating for a new eco-Highland Clearance it's just a demonstrable fact.
There are dozens and dozens of medical conditions - epilepsy, sleep apnoea, heart conditions, glaucoma etc. - which mean that people are unable to drive. About 1/3 of people who are eligible to hold a driver's licence don't - people get used to having a car and it makes them rely on it but life can be lived just as well without one as with. |
