You are welcome. It is not only aluminium, it is any hot metal that can "explode". It is actually water in the sand explosively turning to steam and pushing the molten metal back out under pressure. Molten aluminium also tends to stick to you rather than rolling off. I don't want to put you off especially as I have done it in the past. I just want you to go in with your eyes open because of the increased hazards.
Have you looked into pewter casting? You can do that on your cooker or with a wee camping stove and make some pretty cool ornamental pieces including custom jewellery and gifts. It is a lot more accessible than aluminium casting and you will learn casting skills doing that which you can use later down the line.
It is also dead easy to remelt if you make a mess of a piece.
