| Comment | Jesus christ. If the A-listed Carnegie libraries end up as subdivided yuppie flats under the SNP/Green's watch on GCC that's going to be one hell of an indictment. I presume what they are thinking is that if the case for libraries has been reduced to a public 'net cafe, there are cheaper ways to provide that.
In the very worst case I would at least like to see a Govanhill Baths type of public-occupation strategy. GCC may withhold funding, but the community doesn't have to watch its public amenities fall into ruin either. Eventually the activists figure out how to get funded and the stuff gets resurrected as some box-ticky social enterprise paid for by ScotGov.
Also, let's cut the NewSpeak: libraries aren't "venues" and councillors don't get to shirk responsibility just because Labour created the "Glasgow Life" quango as a front for implementing cuts. |
