Ramadan Mubarak brother. I hope you are well.

I went from private renting to a HA. Game and life changing. I was lucky a got a flat within a few weeks.

Cheaper. Better quality. Energy efficient. Ok, I don’t live in the west end anymore but I can get there in 15 minutes.

I think the reason I was given the place so quickly was two fold: I was to going to be made homeless due to the fact my flat mate wanted to move home again and I couldn’t afford the place on my own, and also pure luck/chance. Right place, right time sort of thing.

The only HA I applied to was Elderpark. And they had just completed a brand new development and were moving scores of long terms tenants into the new place, creating a lot of new vacancies in their existing properties. I did not know this at the time and it was, again, pure luck on my part. They took me in quickly and I’m very settled now. I feel in control compared to a joint tenancy / private let and I’m saving a fortune.

My other advice, if you can, don’t tie yourself to an area, be prepared to explore other places. You might find it works for you.

My advice is, apply far and wide, spread your net, you might get lucky.
