| Comment | This is still very common amongst the Pakistani diaspora in Glasgow. They tend to call it a "committee", and yes, I too have struggled with the point of it, but essentially it's a way of increasing your purchasing power. Not everybody has a credit card, and immigrants and refugees sometimes don't even have bank accounts, so to them it makes sense.
There's also a significant community element to it. |
