I have vague memories of a story/campaign in the Evening Times a while ago, it concerned the shops in the old tenements on High St north of the junction with George St and Duke St.
I can't remember much of the details, but there was something about shops being encouraged to close in favour of a more comprehensive refurbishment. The buildings themselves are hopefully unlikely to be demolished.
