You could look eastwards like dennistoun. Not sure what rent is like but if you're close enough to bellgrove Station your a direct route to Edinburgh (and up to Loch lomond for a day out) . Short walk to town to connect to Bishopbriggs.
Glasgow Green not far either and you can always visit the west end whenever your fancy.
