So just because a person is 60 they should put their life in danger?

I get that if the road conditions call for it then they should be courteous and remain on the road but personally it's much safer to hop on the pavement for some stretches of road. Particularly 40mph limit roads where cars will certainly be doing 50ish.

I also get that when I do feel the need to hop a pavement I'm a guest up there and should take it slow and give pedestrians right of way.

Just to note: the police have seen me do this many times and have never looked twice. They either 'get it' or they simply see no harm coming from it.

Also to note: I've never actually heard of a cyclist colliding with anyone so far. I only hear of close calls. That's not to say there's never been a collision between a cyclist and a pedestrian but I only ever hear of cyclists colliding with other vehicles.
