a lot of trails and pavements are shared with cyclists (according to road markings, signs, traffic lights that include cyclists...) and existing cycle lanes are often full of pedestrian.
sure, bikes are vehicles. but you realise not all vehicles are the same, right? they are entirely different than cars in every possible way. what may inconvenience someone with a car could be deadly for a cyclist.
implying cycling could be just a fad absolutely bewilders me. have you heard of countries like Denmark and the Netherlands, with strong cyclist infrastructure? there are loooads of bicycles there used on the daily, and have been for many years. it is a mode of transportation that is significantly cheaper than cars and public transport and it keeps you fit as well - an extremely good option for those with lower income. not to mention no fossil fuels are involved in powering them, so they are greener too.
