A city centre that people can navigate without a car?

Glasgow as a city has some nice features / buildings but overall it feels like it must have been absolutely destroyed in the 60/70's by a bunch of planners who thought cars were the only way people would ever want to transport themselves.

Until last year it was impossible to cycle west up sauchiehall street, even now if you wanted to say get a curry from Mister Singhs you have to navigate a 4 lane one way road, whats off to either side of this motorway that is the second largest / most central street in Glasgow? MORE ROADS! (Newton Terrace / Place)

Glasgow is one of the most terribly car centric cities I can remember seeing, its one of its saving graces that the current council are fixing that problem
