I would argue people wanted to be in the West End previously, because it was ‘hip’ and ‘cool’, and then got priced out of there. They looked for other areas and settled on South Side. As more people came, more facilities and improvements came. Now the cycle is repeating- people getting priced out of Southside, so other areas of Glasgow will be next for transformation. It’s already happening in Dennistoun, probably Maryhill next.
It’s definitely good in a way, but there’s also the concern about how it’ll impact families who have stayed there for years and may struggle to continue to stay in the area due to affordability. |
