This is the reason I don't use public transport.
My car is 4.2 litre petrol engined. It averages 18 mpg to and from work.
It's cheaper for me to use my car than to take a bus.
Tax and insurance are somewhat irrelevant, the car is taxed and insured whether it's used or not.
