| Comment | This is of course one of the key arguments against dawn raids being used indiscriminately as part of the 'hostile environment'. Because dawn raids are being used irrespective of circumstances, we can't make the assumption that these folk have committed any crimes - because we know that the vast majority of such cases have committed no crimes, they're merely appealing asylum claims, and have been resident entirely legally.
Were the Home Office to restrict the use of dawn raids to cases where it's actually justified, rather than just people appealing asylum claims, then we might be in a situation where assumptions like yours would be appropriate. But they don't, so they're not. |
