| Comment | It could be argued that the Home Office has targeted people of certain races or faith disproportionately. An example of this could be the "go home" vans from around 2013 being driven around certain areas with high levels of residents of certain faiths or ethnicities. Ironically, the Government would later regard people using the phrase "go home" as a racist hate crime. The racial, often anti-Islam, nature of some right wing politics here could also give the impression that the Home Office under the Conservatives (who have shifted to the right in recent times) are focusing on people of certain religions or ethnicities. Couple this with the fact that British foreign policy is often a contributing factor with refugees from parts of the Islamic world seeking asylum here and elsewhere and you'll end up with race and religion a part of the debate. |
